‘븡아완’은 인도네시아어로 ‘강’을 뜻하고, ‘솔로’는 인도네시아 자바 중부의 한 지명으로, ‘븡아완 솔로’는 인도네시아 자바섬에서 가장 긴 강인 ‘솔로강’을 가리킨다. "븡아완 솔로”는 시적인 가사, 민속적인 리듬과 부르기 쉬운 멜로디를 가장 큰 특징으로 하며, 한국의 "아리랑”처럼 인도네시아에서 가장 유명한 민요이자 상징적인 노래이다. 이 곡의 가사는 자바섬의 교역과 농업을 위한 가장 중요한 수로 중 하나인 솔로강의 아름다움과 풍요로움을 나타내고 있다.

‘Bengawan Solo’ means the Solo River, the longest river on the island of Java, derived from ‘bengawan,’ which means river in Indonesian, and ‘Solo,’ the name of a region in Central Java, Indonesia. Poetic lyrics, a folksy rhythm, and the memorable melody are perhaps the best features of "Bengawan Solo.” Just like Korea's "Arirang,” it is a famous folk song of Indonesia and one of the country's most iconic songs. It lyrically expresses the beautiful and rich Solo River, one of the most important waterways for trade and agriculture on the island of Java.

In Lao PDR, ‘pao’ means to blow, ‘khaen’ is a traditional wind instrument made of bamboo, and ‘wong’ means an ensemble. Therefore, ‘pao khaen wong’ in essence means an ensemble performed with khaen, the traditional Lao instrument. Khaen has always been with Lao people’s lives from weddings and funerals to Buddhist rituals and work, and "Pao Khaen Wong” is often performed at festivals and events for distinguished foreign guests.

"국악으로 만나는 아세안 음악: 아세안 X 시나위” 제5편 말레이시아 "음빳 다라” ‘음빳 다라’는 말레이시아어로 ‘네 명의 소녀’라는 뜻이다. 강가에 앉은 고운 소녀들 중에 누가 연인으로 좋을까 고민하는 내용이 담긴 이 곡은 미래의 배우자를 고민하고 있었던 창작자의 개인적인 경험을 바탕으로 만들어진 것으로 알려져 있다. 말레이시아 여성의 공손함과 우아함을 노래하며, 남성의 약속에 쉽게 넘어가지 말라는 조언도 건네고 있다. 이후 "음빳 다라”는 많은 가수들에 의해 리메이크되어 불렸으며, 2020년 엘리 메즐라인, 페이잘 타히르, 지지 키라나가 함께 부른 리메이크 버전이 최근 큰 인기를 끌고 있다. This song is about a man thinking over who, among four lovely women sitting by the river, would be the best match for him. The lyrics also provide some advice for women not to be fooled by men‘s promises and describes the politeness and gracefulness of Malaysian women. Many singers have recorded cover versions of "Empat Dara,” and the most recent one by Elly Mazlein, Faizal Tahir and Zizi Kirana, released in 2020, has been enjoying great popularity.

제6편 미얀마 "흐몽 슈웨 이” "흐몽 슈웨 이”는 미얀마에서 매우 유명한 영화 음악으로, 미얀마어로 ‘금빛 꽃가루’를 뜻한다. 영화 속 여주인공 흐몽은 만인에게 사랑받는 전통예술가이다. 정원에 들어설 때 꽃향기가 사방으로 퍼지며 꽃들이 금빛 가루처럼 빛나는데, 이는 그녀의 아름다움을 비유적으로 나타낸 것이다. 이 곡은 현재까지도 대중적인 인기를 끌며 TV, 라디오 등 대중매체에서 자주 연주되고 있고, 영화나 공연에서는 전통무용과 함께 선보이기도 한다. "ASEAN Music Meets Korean Instruments: ASEAN X SINAWI” Ep. 6 Myanmar "Hmone Shwe Yee” "Hmone Shwe Yee” is a famous film score in Myanmar, meaning golden pollen in Burmese. Hmone, the female lead in the film, is a traditional artist loved by everybody. When she enters the garden, floral scent spreads and flowers shine like golden pollen, which figuratively expresses her beauty. Enjoying popularity up until now, it has often been presented via various media including radio and television, and performed in films and theaters along with Myanmar's traditional dance.

제7편 필리핀 "루팡 티누부안” "루팡 티누부안”은 나라를 향한 영원한 사랑을 표현하는 필리핀의 고전적인 사랑 노래 장르인 ‘꾼디만’에 속한다. ‘루팡 티누부안’은 필리핀어로 ‘조국’을 뜻하여, 이 곡은 필리핀의 국민적인 영웅인 호세 리살에 관해 이야기하며 조국 필리핀에 대한 사랑을 강조하는 노래이다. 필리핀 국민 음악가인 펠리페 드 레온의 곡에 현대 타갈로그 시의 아버지로 일컬어지는 시인 알레한드로 아바딜라가 가사를 붙인 곡이다. "ASEAN Music Meets Korean Instruments: ASEAN X SINAWI” Ep. 7 Philippines "Lupang Tinubuan” "Lupang Tinubuan” is a kundiman, a genre of traditional Philippine love songs, that conveys the undying love for one's beloved country. ‘Lupang Tinubuan’ means homeland in the Filipino language, hence the music piece emphasizes love for the Philippines as one's homeland, in reference to national hero Jose Rizal. The music was composed by National Artist for Music Felipe Padilla de Leon, while the lyrics were written by Alejandro G. Abadilla, considered the "Father of Modern Tagalog Poetry."

제8편 싱가포르 "수리람” "수리람”은 중국계, 말레이계, 인도계 등으로 구성된 다민족 국가 싱가포르에서 널리 불리는 말레이계 전통 동요이다. ‘수리람’은 말레이식 여자아이 이름을 가리키는데, 딸 수리람이 착하고 친절한 아이로 자라기를 바라는 부모님의 마음을 그린 곡이다. "ASEAN Music Meets Korean Instruments: ASEAN X SINAWI” Ep. 8 Singapore "Suriram” "Suriram” is a traditional children's song of Malay origin and sung widely in Singapore, a country that is home to various ethnic groups, including Chinese, Malays and Indians. ‘Suriram’ is a girl's name in Malay. The song expresses parents‘ wish for their daughter to grow into a good and kind person.
